Resolution 1325 is a result of decades of dedicated work by peace- and women’s organisations. Their efforts have increased awareness of how important it is to use a gender perspective to establish sustainable peace – in the Security Council, in the general UN-system, in the governments of member states and among other actors working in conflict areas.
To achieve real and lasting peace it is crucial for all member states to work in the spirit of the resolution.
